What is Hospice Versus Palliative Care?

At New Vision Hospice & Palliative Care, we offer both hospice and palliative care. Both of these services provide compassionate care to those with illnesses that are bringing their life to an end. Palliative care is a part of hospice care that can be used as a separate part of someone’s care that is receiving treatment from our California at-home hospice company. We serve all of Los Angeles and the surrounding communities.

Understanding The Differences

Hospice addresses a patient’s spiritual, physical and emotional needs. Our staff will hep with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, administrating medication and more, but we are not full-time caregivers. In order to use our hospice service, the patient must have an available caregiver in the home. Hospice care is for terminally ill patients with less than six months of life left.

With palliative care, we focus on relieving symptoms that are associated with the patient’s condition while they are receiving treatment. Palliative care is for those that are going through active treatment through phases of their life-limiting medical condition. Both types of care treat the whole patient and their family and provide emotional and spiritual counseling.

How is it paid for?

Hospice care is generally paid for in full by the Medicare Hospice Benefit or the Medicaid Hospice Benefit. Most insurances as well as the Veteran’s Administration, generally with minimal co-pays if at all. At New Vision Hospice & Palliative Care, we are committed to providing both hospice and palliative care to those in and around Los Angeles needing our help.
